Tooth Decay is still a huge community problem.

After 30 years of fluoride and oral hygiene promotion by dentists, government health authorities and many commercial interests like Colgate, tooth decay has only been halved and a more evidence based promotion of prevention in oral health is needed. The ADA asserts that dental decay is the second most costly disease and  the most prevalent in the community.  Professor John Spencer, asks "Is caries re-surfacing?", in the Australian Dental Journal 2004;49:(2):98-100

Almost all cavities occur where food is trapped between teeth and inside grooves on chewing surfaces at every meal or snack and sugar and starch changed to acid, even after brushing , chewing gum, or swishing.  Xrays after chewing barium sulphate shows where food is trapped in grooves and a glass model of a fissure demonstrates this.
